I am looking to upgrade my PC from an AMD64 3000+ SKT754, GA-K8NS PRO and Asus 6800GT AGP to a PD 805, GA-8N-SLI and a 7600GT PCI-E

will the 7600GT perform similar or better to the good ole 6800GT?

I don't wan to spend a huge amount on a graphics card as my budget is already eaten up by the cpu and mobo upgrade...I was happy with the 6800GT's perfomance and it is a pity I can't use it in the new system.

You'll be glad with a 7600GT, apparently I own one too :). It's a performer in alot of the games that i'm playing atm (most on 1600x1200 even with 2 AA).

you will get more or less the same performance at most times, a tad improvement at stock. this link shows some difference but this is more theoritical, agreed that 7600GT will be or may be noticeably better but the settings at which you play your games won't change by a lot.

Maybe 10X7 Max 16x AF or maye no AF

Don't expect to go from 10X7 Max to 12X10 Max, more like 10X7 Max to 10X7 2Xaa or 10X7 Max 8x AF imo

well, the difference will be there but then it is like going from a Radeon 1900XTX OC to a 7950GX2 or maybe a tad underclocked version

Do you think your budget would allow a 7900GT? That would definitely provide more of a performance jump for you.

unfortunately here in Australia the 7900 series are almost twice the price of the 7600GT's

but I was happy with the performance of my 6800GT and I still am, but I switched to dual core and need a PCI-E video card...something that will perform similar to my 6800GT

The 7600GT will be faster, in some titles noticably so@the same settings, and not using a power connector is a bonus. The reference cooler, most use, is noticably loud when in 3D mode though.
