How much of an effect does room temperature have on cpu temp?

Is it linear? Does a room temperature of 30C(86F) (e.g. my appartment this afternoon :() translate roughly into a cpu temperature of 10C(16F) more than a room temperature of 20C(68F) providing that case airflow is adequate? I assume that the effect is compounded if airflow is insufficient.

Waiting for the landlord to turn down the bloody heat.

It is linear to a point... Roughly, yeah, with good airflow, a 10C increase is about a 10C increase in cpu temp, since the heatsink is using case-temp air to cool itself...

So a full load (24/7 rc5) cpu temp of 56C in a 30C living room for an AJFA ('B') Tbird 1@1.1GHz on an A7V133 (rev. 1.05, bios 1.003) would be roughly equivalent to ~46C in a 20C room?

That makes me feel a bit better. I though that my Taisol GCK 742092/YS Tech HSF combo was performing very poorly even with Arctic Silver because I see so many reported temps in the 40s. Looks like my room temp is the main culprit. :)

Thanks Mike. :)

my cpu is consistently about 13-14C > case temp, which runs about 2C over room temp. using a free crappy 2 inch thermometer to measure room temp, so my readings are estimates. on a kk266 with 1.33 amd
