How much of a performance upgrade 6800 GT (AGP) to an X800XT(PCIe)?

I have the painfully slow dial up connection and I've been trying to find some benchmarks to compare these two types of cards with no luck. Any links would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah porformance shouldn't be too different, depends on what games you play as it is always like that between nvidia and ati.

I'm supposing the X800XT will be a bit faster in Direct3D and the 6800GT a bit faster in OpenGL.

But just by small margins.

Don't bother. The only useful upgrade you can make is to a 7800GT(X)/X1800XL/T once you finally get around to buying a PCI-e mobo, which I strongly recommend.

Practically zero since it won't be an upgrade. Both cards have similar performance.
An upgrade will be moving up to x1800/7800 cards.

He's going from AGP to PCI-E.

I would say you wont lose out on performance and with the X800XT, I think you'll be better off as the X800XT is a bit faster, esp. with a little OC.

The only determining factor is if you can get a good deal on one. Sell your 6800GT and get the X800XT for the same price maybe a little more. If you're gonna have to shell out a lot of $$$ to get the X800XT, then I would say don't do it and look for a 7800GT.

I've also owned both and there was a noticeable difference in performance. I'll see if I can dig up the old benchmarks I ran between the two but in FarCry I was able to move up a notch in resolution and HL2 was definetely faster. Those are the two games I played the most of. I even oced the 6800GT to Ultra speeds and the X800XT was still faster. Other games will be different but if you look at reviews, the X800XT overall performed noticeably faster.

That being said, unless you can find an X800XT for a really good price ($250 or less), I'd look for a good deal on a 7800GT. They can be had for ~$300 if you watch for it. If money is tight you can also look for an X800GTO(2) and unlock and oc it to X850XT speeds. You can find those for ~$180-220.

Aw shucks just go with the monarchcomputer.com Connect 3D X800GTO with a lil work can become a X800XT. Only 154 after rebate. Of course the overclock and unlock are variable, it seems to work very well right now.

Thank you all - that is what I was trying to see - is if they were comparable or it would be an upgrade. I actually have the 6800 vanilla @ GT speeds but the 128 RAM I suspect will make quite a big difference so I'm going to see if I can get a good deal then I'll upgrade otherwise I'll stay w/the AGP for now.

Would that really be a big improvement over the 6800 GT? Of course, if he could sell that 6800 GT and get $150 for it maybe it would be worthwhile.

You'll see some performance difference but I wouldn't bother as it's a waste of money. Get something better like a 7800 GTX.
