How much of a performance hit does Encryption add?

I don't have any data with actual timings but when I had > 10GB of encrypted data on the SD card it ran everything from it normally to me on the Note 3. Never encrypted whole phone.

Since about a year ago I've encrypted the entire phone and SD card. I don't notice a difference in day to day use.

It is just like Bitlocker for me. I've seen there is a small performance hit but I don't notice it.

Any downside? Can you still use Titanium Backup to do quick restores after flashing a new ROM?

I've been interested in this as well.

I've been interested in this as well.

My Nexus 5 has an unlocked boot loader, custom recovery, and rooted, with the storage encrypted. Titanium Backup seems to work fine as does everything else. Have not seen any down sides.

PS. I'd say if there are any down sides. It's that it can take about an hour to encrypt the first time. And you can't remove encryption without doing a factory reset.

My HTC One M8 is encrypted per company policy (its a work phone) and I don't notice any performance drop. My old phone was a Note 2 and while its obviously a few years old, the m8 still blazes past it in absolutely every way.

I hate the thought of encrypting a phone. It's part of my company's Exchange policies. I use Touchdown or I'd just root & install Xposed to use the stock Mail app.

Technically it does add overhead, and I don't mind in a device that has the horsepower to do it, like a computer (which my work computer is). To me, I value my phone's performance, and don't want the headaches/overhead that encryption adds.
