Thinking of upgrading how much of a difference would I notice, I play games with some slowdown mainly GTA3. How much of an improvement overall could I expect not just with gaming?

i am not sure exactly how much better it will be for GTA3, but for all games in general, u should definitely see a huge boost! check out this link for a few examples. think of the 7000 as between the radeon ve and stock radeon.

Spanky, you may wanna re-read the original post... he's going from a GeForce4 MX440 (Not Geforce2 mx) to a Radeon 7000 (NOT 7500). Stick with the GF4 mx440 for gaming. If you want dual-display and 2D crispness you may want to consider the Radeon 7000.

Here's a good review of the Radeon 7000 64mb DDR card. You'll see what I mean by staying away from gaming with this card (it scores somewhere between a TNT2 M64 and a GeForce2 mx200 I'd say in gaming): Link

no, maybe u need to re-read the post. i see nothing mentioned about upgrading from gf2 mx in this thread. as far as i can understand, the initial post was asking to compare two video cards, which are the gf4 mx440 and the radeon 7000.

Radeon 7000 is NOT a gaming board, it is very very slow.. only 64bit ram (not the 128bit that is the norm) and a hacked up T&L engine.. developed for like business i think.. i.e the Boss doesn't want you to play game (at a resonable speed that it).

The lowest Radeon you would want to get is a 7200, but its sdram based. 8500 definitely recommend :)

Anyway, the GF4MX440 would kick the arse outta a Radeon 7000.

the radeon 7000 is a radeon ve. they renamed it. with its pathetic 64bit ddr bus, its UBER slow. its barely above tnt2 class.

the mx440 would rip it a new one.

BTW, i just bought a robanton or something ti200 card on ebay. its a prolink pixelview. got it for $61 + $10 shipping, which is about $4 less than most auctions are going for. but you can pick up a ti200 for the price of a mx440 on ebay, so get a ti200.
