Hey Guys,

Current system rig below

2.8Ghz hyperthreaded
2gb ddr pc3200 ram

Updated system rig below

E6600 Core 2 Duo
2gb ddr2 800mhz

How much difference will I see when editing video and encoding video files? How much faster would my exports be on videos. How much quicker when encoding dvd? How fast will windows load?

Thanks for your help
Regards
Trent

Windows will probably load about the same. The rest of the stuff is primarily limited by how fast your harddrive is.

I will be getting the ASUS P5B Deluxe motherboard and using 2x SATA Western Digital 500GB 16 MB cache Up to 300 MB/s SATA transfer rates

Is it worth upgrading or should I be waiting. I dont game so it will mainly be used for video editing and encoding. Will it be twice as fast or just seconds quicker

again, it's hard to say EXACTLY. you will be skipping a whole generation of Intel cpu's and going right to the Core2.

On my DVD/CD/Multimedia rig, I went from a P4 3.0 skt478 w/ 1GB Geil pc3200 2-2-2-5, to a P4 520 (skt775) w/ 1GB Kingston PC4200 and the performance was noticeably different. It didn't load Windows faster...but it Encodes movies about 2x as fast.

Yes, the vid encoding performance will be at least 2x faster. You should probably wait till april 22 for price drop tho, for -$70 less on e6600
