How much of a noticeable difference will there be if I upgrade my Aureal Vortex sound card to

Pretty much so. Although going from a Vortex to SB Live is a DOWNgrade.

Nothing... trust me... nothing worth it at least. If my Vortex didn't crap out last week i'd still be using it... in goes a generic $5 soundcard and no freakin difference either... other than A3D... oh and i'll take Aureal over a live anyday.

It is old but that doesn't mean it isn't good. Now I think we are all assuming you mean a Vortex 2, not a Vortex 1. The only bad thing is that there is no longer any updated drivers because since Creative couldn't beat Aureal on merit they just bought them out and shut them down. Or something like that.

Also, sadly enough the DOS soundblaster emulation is much better on a Vortex2 than on a SB live.

similar situation with me; my Aureal SQ2500 Vortex2 superquad is giving me problems under WinXP. I am guessing it's more of a driver issue than anything else. Is there any "good" XP driver out there other than Microsoft's that comes with WinXP?

Also, I've ordered a Audigy to replace the SQ2500... performance gain?

The SQ2500 now would probably replace my other system, a K6-2 550 running WinME and SB16 ISA What would be the "best" driver ?? I know there are a lot of modifications since Creative killed aureal, but it's a bit confusing and I don't know which one to use. I would appreciate it greatly if you can help~
