How much of a guarantee should i offer for my used system?

iamme

Lifer
I'm selling the system in my sig, and the guy's asking me how much of a guarantee i can offer.

a DOA guarantee? is that fair?

the sytem runs fine and it's been stable for me. i think there's some manufacturer's warranty left, but i'm not sure.

Guarantee that it will work when it gets there. Anything more than that and you will be responsible for whatever actions he does to it down the road.

Insure it, then guarantee it to be NOT DoA. If it Is, its either his fault or the shipping companies fault, and its covered.

a DOA guarantee? is that fair?

how about a "not DOA" guarantee? 🙂

I offer 20 days and the person can't touch the insides or mess with windows, etc... I only cover hardware failures that are a result of my failure to maintain a good PC. If they mess it up in any way, it's their problem.

i'm mostly worried, because i'm selling a motherboard, two CPU's, two heatsinks/fans, RAM, two HD's, and a RAID card.

there seems to be alot of room for him to screw something up on his own. for all i know this could be the first system he's put together.

If something goes wrong after that, it would depend on what it was.

exactly

i sold a system to somebody here, a few weeks later he said the power supply failed
well, i had a spare psu sitting around anyway, so i just sent it to him, why not?

now if the motherboard was dead, well

you just have to use your best judgement, but if you are a private individual selling used stuff/systems with half used parts, then you can't go much further than them turning it on and it works out of the box
