cleartype is an absolute MUST for lcd (for my laptop anyway) !!

I can't see the difference between my analog and dvi input, bucause i don't have to a shonky video card .. doesn't stop me from using dvi for the hell of it though.

It make the fonts looks more "solid" and easier to read. Try it, you can tell the difference.

Personally it makes it a bit easier to read on highres displays especially with LCDs but everyone's opinions differ on CT widely. As far as Analog and DVI are concerned, CT is completely different. If what you're asking is, if I'd rather have CT on a LCD with analog or a LCD with DVI and no CT, um, I don't know. Why not run CT and DVI :D

Also if you want to see what CT does in case you're not using WinXP, check out this neat little app.

I like it a LOT. As others have said, it makes things easier to read, especially on an LCD.

well i asked about analog vs dvi, as a comparison, to get a sense of how much better cleartype is. person only has windows 98, and wanted to know if it was worthwhile to upgrade. but now that app will come in handy.

I'm running 1280 x 1024 on a 19in monitor and it's a very definite improvement. Hell, click it and hit apply and see the difference. If it looks better, keep it!

I've found that the CRT may need some adjustment, but it's a major difference with it. Dunno about DVI though.

I think it can greatly improve readability in certain fonts (especially sans serif and italicized ones, IME), even on CRTs. Of course, grayscale font AA would be better (I believe Linux offers that), but CT is better than nothing.
