how much notice do you think you should give

so it looks like my company is relocating me in April, to a new office on the other side of the state (I *could* commute, but I don't particularly want to... it'd be an hour drive each way and I don't like my apartment that much). I'm worried, though, that I might screw over my landlord if I tell him today that I'm moving on March 30th, giving him less than a month's notice, so I've been debating whether or not I should tell him that I'm moving out at the end of April, and just commute for a month.

I like my landlord... he and his wife have both been pretty nice to me, so I don't want to screw them over. also, I pay month-to-month. no lease or contract to adhere to.

While you have no obligation to, imho, the right thing to do is give him at least 30 days if not 60. Tell him now for 4/30 and you should be fine.

Even if you don't have a lease.

Most states require 30 days written notice for the lessor or the lessee to terminate a month to month tenancy.

Just do what I did, have him show up on a Saturday as you're moving out. He'll ask what is going on, you hand him the keys.

easy peasy.
