How much money would you save if you quit playing Hold'em?

I blew exact total of $300 in past 7 days. I'm never gambling again online. I see this as a $300 lesson and it is lesson well learned.

[edit]
I've never ever lost this amount in my entire life. At least I know I can't gamble professionally.

I'll still play $5-10 games with my friends. That is just as same as going out and watching a movie. As long as we have a healthy 'gambling as entertainment expense' mindset.

I got into online thing because I wanted to see if I could start making money like some people already do here.

You guys are...

...stupid.

they're only half right. Slot machines, Roulettes are indeed stupid because it is 100% statistics and you're bound to lose on the long run.

Hold'em is a game of skill and requires extreme knowledge of probabilities, control, and psyche. The movie Rounders said it best:

"If poker was a sheer luck, why do you always see same people in the annual poker championship?"

More like how much money would I have left if I would have quit playing last year. Out of shame, I won't even say how much I lost last year in card rooms. I recommend anyone that thinks they're going too far to stop right then, and get help if needed. I stopped myself too late in the game.

I've always wondered if i'm up or down. I've won a good share of the games i've played (i play about 2-10 games a week amongst friends). i should start keeping track!

But yeah...most of the times i play 5 dollar games and i just consider it a form of entertainment that sometimes rewards me back! same as if i just went to the movies but without the option of making your money and possibly more back!

gambling is fun, usually it involves a few friends and a good nite of drinking. its well worth the money for the entertainment for me.

I learned how to play poker from some guys at work. I got really into it and started playing online....within 2 months of playing poker I had lost $1500.....I kept at it and have since won all that back and actually profited some. If you think you're going to make money fast stay away but if you're good with numbers and odds and aren't afraid of risks you'll usually come out ahead after you learn to play....There is a steep learning curve though. I'm just glad I stuck with it...

I play little $3 games with my friends about twice a week, but that's all. Never played for more than $5, and I don't plan on doing it either.

<-- Cheap and broke :p

Never for money but I won about $3000 in fake money over the course of a few hours in one night. I got real damn lucky and had 4 kings twice that night. Beat out a guy who had a 3-queen full house once and took him for a lot :)

Seriously be glad you didn't start winning money ... it's harder to leave if you have taste winning a chunk of money in the beginning.

I've noticed I see lots of threads on "Hold'em". Why is it so popular around here?

Any good resources to learn about the game ? (URLs and books)
