How much money have you made with the stock market? (cash out)

So i'm interested... did you pull out at that right time? Did you make profit?

If you read my post before about buying Nvidia right before it collapsed, I sold my AMD last night and made some profit off of it and bought 51 more shares of NVDA with that money first thing this morning. Well it went up and i'm almost at my even point. 🙂 🙂 It's gotta hit 11+ for me to start actually making money.

So how does your story go? Wha'd you buy.... where'd you go with your earnings?

🙂

edit: that was my 9-11th post...weird

If you trade you are likely to miss large increases. Long term buy and hold on a diversified portfolio is the only strategy that really works unless you are really lucky. Putting all you eggs in one basket, in particular a tech basket in a declining market with the market leader isn't what I would consider a good strategy. But hey that's just me. You will get your cold bucket of water one of these days, everyone has to learn lessons. 🙂

As for me I've lost more money than I can count. But it's just money so what do I care.

I have a Roth IRA to which I have only ever deposited $1500 in cash ($1000 in 1997ish and $500 2001ish when I converted to Roth from traditional).

It's value today is $13,400. I rode Corel from $2.50 to $20 (when they released Corel Linux several years back). I made a very minor profit on HP during that same time frame. Then I asked from some investing advice from a friend/pastor, and he turned me onto gold mining stocks. He knows a lot about precioius metals and even does deep research on his own, calling the board members of the companies and such.

So I bought Alamos Minerals, Minefinders, and Silverado. I'm way, way up on Alamos and Minefinders, but I bought Silverado at a recent peak of 0.45 and it has contracted down to 0.32. too much hype on that one, I guess. I should mention that the Silverado purchase was the one I picked on my own, and not with advice from my friend/pastor.

Luckily, I was too poor to have any money in the stock market during the 90's, because the odds were that I would have lost most of it. heh

I had a similar experience to Maetryx. I had $1500 in an IRA. I invested all of it in CMGI. When the account was at $30000 I took out enough for a down payment on my house (penalty-free withdrawal for first home!!). The account is still worth $5000. Don't get me started on my bad experiences. CPHD and ELN have kicked my ass.

Currently I have profited exactly $416.18 off of the stock market in the last 5 years worth of messing around with it.

Yes, I know I suck.

if your counting 401K's, mine is down 26% from last year and my company uses MetLife.

Im still going to plug $500.00 a month into it. I am in it for the long haul.

My dad has lost over 300k in the last couple years but he made a killing years before. I'm breaking even right now on my walmart stock, probably up a bit. I put $200/month from my paychecks into it and it doesn't cost me anything to buy the stock so I'm making out alright.

AMD up $0.83 cents today... if you weren't trying to be a day trader you would have made more profit than you would have from NVidia 😉

Haven't cashed out yet.

I'm up 50K, but I was up 80K :frown:

I have some prudential and it has not been real good but going to hold on to it for another year or so, I used to trade chock full of nuts, a really volitile stock and made a little but my investiments have been in real estate. There will never be any more earth so it has got to be good in the long run, I have not had to turn a lick for 9 years if that tells you anything.
