I used to leave my computer on 24/7.
I have 2 RAID arrays (4 raptors on a 3ware controller, 4 other drivers in RAID 5 using Intel software on-board RAID, an one other drive on it's own for the OS'es)
Geforce 7800 or something like this, overclocked
Core 2 Duo OC'ed to 2.4GHz
620W Corsair PS
24" flatscreen and a 22" flatscreen, though these go into their own low power mode already, after 20 minutes of idleness.
I want to save money on my power bill so I set the machine to go to sleep mode after 1 hour of use. It doesn't bother me at all, only takes about 5 seconds to get back to my rull responsive desktop when I want to use it.
Anyways, how much money could I expect to save? I'm in Brooklyn if that helps estimate. No idea what my kw/h rate is, too lazy to go get last bill.
