Hi!

I have a GigaByte GA-6VX-4X mobo.
I want to add more memory, the maximum that it can take.

Quotes from the manual.
"
Page 3
*4 168-pin DIMM sockets support 6 banks.
*Supports PC-100 / PC-133 SDRAM.
*Supports 6 banks up to 1.5GB DRAM (256MB DRAM).
"
Page 43
Total System Memory (MAX 1.5GB).
*Supports 16 / 32 / 64 / 128 / 256 / 512 MB SDRAM DIMM Modules.
"
End Quotes.

How can I get 1.5GB with 6 banks using 256MB modules?

Why does the mobo have 4 DIMM sockets, but only 6 usable banks?

Makes no sense.

Quote from GigaByte site.
"
8MB to 1GB DRAM size
4 x 3.3V DIMM Sockets
Supports 8/16/32/64/128/256 MB SDRAM DIMM Module
Supports ECC Type DIMM Module (72bits)
"
End Quote.

I?m confused.
Please help.

It doesnt have room for 6 DIMM, only 4x DIMM. Which means if you want to use 256mb modules, the most your gonna get it 1GB. If you want 1.5GB buy 3x512mb PC133 sdram ... they only cost $28 each @ pricewatch. You don't need 1.5GB though, unless your doing major stuff, like image manipulating ect. but it probably wont hurt to get 1.5GB.
