Iexplore.exe is your internet browser and explore.exe is your desktop. Apparently some of you have the processes combined into just explorer.exe. I have not expericenced that. To cut down on the memory usuage of explore.exe try the following:
1. Turn off Active desktop. Right click on background->properties->web and unclick show web content on my active desktop
2. Don't use some fancy smancy background. Backgounds take up a lot of memory, especially .jpgs. If you can't live without your .jpg background (which when you use, enables active desktop) convert it to a .bmp.
3. On the bar down by where the time is, the system tray, disable and/or remove all the little icons you can. I once figured out that just by having them there uses a fair bit of memory for just being an icon.
4. I've found this to work for me. The more icons on your destop the more memory explore.exe will use and the slower your computer will boot up. Remove all none essential icons off the desktop. It's not that hard to hit start->programs and find your program. For those ones you have to have quick access to, put them in the quicklanch bar. I found it doesn't use memeory like the system tray does.
5. Disable mouse pointer shadow and any fancy mouse pointer icons. They are uneeded and use memory.
