I'm running win98se on an intel D845GRG board. It came with 256 ram and I wanted to upgrade to 1gb for some heavy duty scanning/pdf'ing. The system will boot fine with one 512 stick but whne two are in there I get a black screen saying windows protection error. It is crucial ram that was selected by the memory selector and it has been re-seated, order switched, etc. Does win98 only handle so much ram? According to the intel site D845GRG board it can take up to 2gb of ram?

Whats going on?

Thanks,

Win98 takes up to 512Mb of RAM by default. Apparently there is a work-around that would let you run Win98SE with more than 512Mb, see here.

I second the motion for upgrading to Win2000 or WinXP Pro for what you're planning to do.
