How much longer will youtube be free???

Youtube is the internet for personal video. If the internet is the source for info, youtube is the source for video. You can find anything on youtube. Video or home movies, tv clips old and new, anything. So I just dont see youtube able to remain a free site with hords of video uploaded daily and the massive load there must be on their server(s).
At some point, they will have to start a fee service for use...???

No I probable would not pay, but thats the point. A lot of my friends and family scattered around the US post personal video. Its like keeping in touch visually. And then I like being able to search for the weirdest stuff, and finding it. Like Betty Davis ragging on Joan Crawford on the Johnny Carson show. Or clips from the old 1960 'Whats My Line" TV show. Or music videos on just about any one and anything you can imagine. Its all there. "Who fing cares?"... you sound like my 70 year old dad on the internet in general. Damm fing Technology.

Think they're just holding out until they get bought.
But with every passing month, that possibility looks smaller and smaller....

Honestly, who cares how long it's going to be free? There are plenty of alternatives that will always be free.

speaking of ads... has anybody seen ads on youtube anywhere? there's no picture ads from what i've seen.

Hmm, I think it's pretty cool that you can look at those videos without paying a dime. Nice to know some good stuff in the world is still free (ATOT tops that list 😉 ).

If they start charging, you can bet your house that I won't be subscribing. Occasionally someone shows me a video or I'll catch one off an ad, but as far as actively searching through that library, not going to happen.

I seriously doubt they'll start charging, perhaps maybe for some premium junk - as the way I see it is the minute they start charging is the minute they hand over their place in the food chain to some other similar site. The new site might not be as good, but it'd be free, and free wins.

...if youtube goes away or starts charging, there will be a bunch of other free internet video sites that will spring up. Hell, Google might even get into it. Oh, wait.

Seriously, who cares about youtube? Yes, it's cool now, and no I won't miss it if it goes downhill. There will always be free services for those who are willing to look at advertising.

i wonder about it's viability as well. and google video. how are they going to sustain themsevles. stage6 (divx's video sharing) is nice in that it's high quality streams. too bad you need to ahve the divx web player installed.

placing short video ads before each video could be quite lucrative for them, imo. especially because they encourage embedding their videos on 3rd party websites. ads are potentially viewed on youtube's site as well as forums, blogs, myspace, etc. etc.

i doubt they'll ever charge for it. what they may do is improve their advertisements, maybe force you to watch an ad before you see a video. BUT, if they ever charged, they'll lose their audience.
