how much longer is the 4890 than the 8800gt?

i'm trying to see if the 4890 will fit in my case setup. see picture in signature.

how much longer is the 4890 than the 8800gt?

The length of the 4890 appears to be around 9.50 to 9.75 inches.

With the radiator in that position, it will surely not fit. You would have to put it outside of the case somehow.

Error is right. Nvidia lists the 8800gt at 9 inches. at another 1/2" to 3/4" the PCB will be right on the rad. Forget about the power connectors.
