My current rig is running in a 300W PSU. I'm using a cheapy mobo with an Intel Celeron 1.7 CPU, with a cheapy 256mb NVidia videocard AGP, 1 DVD, 1 1.44 floppy, 1 CD Writer and Ethernet card. I bought and received my new OCZ 520W Modstream yesterday for my upcoming upgrade.
I'm planning to use my new 520 PSU and remove the old 300W on my current rig. Will the new PSU destroy my current rig because of too much power?
Any comments and suggestion will be highly appreciated especially from the experts.

It's not a joke. I just want to warm up the new PSU for the upcoming upgrade.

It only draws from the PSU as much as it needs. So having more is actually better, but in some cases it's just more. You can consider it the only thing future proof in your box.

Its like an amplifier... just because its rated 200w doesn't mean it puts out 200w all the time. You PC will draw as much power as it needs. Same with your house's AC. Just because the outlet can handle 15a doesn't mean 15a are going through it all the time. you plug in a 5w device it draws 5w...

Great deal

Hehe. As they said. Though you really won't need an 850W redundant PSU. (Unless you're like me and have a system with alot of HDs.)

Yup. I noticed you have a lot of HD. What's the difference between Clawhammer and Winchester aside from the 0.13micron and 0.90nm respectively? I read some comments that you can OC Clawhammer better than Winchester but it's hotter than Winchester.

haha, no dude, you can run that rig on a AA battery as long as it is in water

I was planning to bring my car battery in the room and connect it to this dang old rig. But yeah I'm dead serious, would it be ok if I use 520W on this old oil rig?

Yes. A nice powerful powersupply will not hurt anything.

There will be no problem using your new PSU with your old rig. As others have said, it will only draw as much power as it needs. A bigger PSU just gives you less risk of being underpowered, and that PSU can be used againg for much more powerful systems in the future.
