For years I have thrown a party for myself each year in July. It started as a birthday thing, but now its as much a reunion of friends as much as a B-day party for me.

How much is too much $.

What do you guys think?

depends on how much the party means to you and your friends and what you can afford.

What kind of party do you usually throw? Do you rent a place or just get together and have some fun? I am always a spend thrift/broke so I just do the best I can.

Figure out how much you can afford to spend, and then buy one extra bag of chips! That way you can say you went all out for yourself!

For my 40th my wife spent $2000 for a party in our backyard. Had about 50 people all of whom were required to bring the food and drinks, so that part cost nothing. We had a lit dance floor, DJ and Tahitian dancers. The family and friends talked about it for years.

Spend what you can afford. Have the guests bring the food and booze. If someone knows a DJ or band that will work cheap bring them in. Have fun. You only live once.
