How much is too hot?

I'm running my tbird 1.2@1485mhz. This bird just does not want to go past 1466 w/o vcore maxed out on Epox 8k7a...i.e 2.17v.

At full load at 1485mhz, my vcore is at 2.09v or so, but my temps get pretty high like over 60C. Is this too much? WHen is it dangerous for the chip?

I'm using a sk6+30cfm delta, two antec case fans (1intake+1exhaust). Sparkle 350W PSU.

Thats more than I'd be comfortable with. The sk6 is a good cooler but with that kind of voltage you probably should use a higher cfm fan,if you can stand the noise.

Did switching your Antec 300W psu to the Sparkle 350W help your overclock & your 5volt line?

I think you should get some better cooling (i.e.-water or something!) if you're going to run the CPU @ 2.17V! I'm running my 1.4GHz@1.58GHz @ 1.80V Vcore. Temps I'm getting on my Asus A7V133 are right around 50 C at full load, so... 60 C sounds high

Switching to the Sparkle 350W made a difference because I could clearly see that the 5v rails didn't drop as much. However they still dropped to around 4.8v when my vcore was maxed out. I adjusted the pots on the SParkle 350w to increase the 5v rails and this worked great. My 5v rails at full load were around 5.11V. It even enabled me to set the vcore up to 2.17 v.

Temperature doesn't seem to be a problem however. While prime can run stable, I can't run any thing that requires use of the 3d accelerator. If I run 3dmark or a game or something everything crashes. i don't understand why because prime95 causes the CPU to bleed much more than a stupid game.

The funny thing is that 3dmark is now crashing even at 1.4ghz and default vcore. I am completely stumped ast my 5v rails are good, my 3.3v is at 3.41v and 12v is also above 12v. I'm running at default 133fsb so I have no idea why anything 3d intensive is causing crashes. Does anyone have any ideas?

My only guess now is that it is my Epox motherboard.

This is fairly frustrating as no one is able to point out what might seem to really be the problem.
Not heat, not the power supply, not the video card, then what?

My overclocking experience has truly been a nightmare as I cannot get my system stable even at stock speed and voltage. I don't understand why it is so unpredictable.
