Alright, so my step-dad's old p2 350 is finally getting crappy enough where he wants a new one....so i told him i'd sell him mine since im looking to buy a laptop anyhow. Here's the specs, tell me how much its worth....

Server case w/ 400w supply (cost me around $65)
ECS K7S5A (using onboard sound/lan)
768 PC2100 DDR
XP 1600+
60gb Maxtor
48x CDRW
12x DVD
1.44 floppy
Geforce4 MX440 64mb
3 case fans, HDD cooler

how much do you think its worth? i was thinking 500$, but then again that may be too much....

thx :beer::)

honestly, id say around $315-330. $500 is a bit much, even if all were brand new in retail boxes. id just go to a site like newegg and put your system together for a better idea of how much it is worth. i often wonder how much mine is worth sometimes (to sell) and thats how i figure.

Don't forget the cost of software; I am assuming you have a windows based OS...maybe MS Office, etc.

I sell AMD systems and I have to say that all of those brand new are worth no more than $350. Since your computer is used, you should be selling this for less than 350...

A person would be crazy to pay $500 for that. You could get a new dell p4 2.4ghz for that! I'd say its worth $200 TOPS.

Think of it in comparison to the cost to buy a new one. For example on Wednesday you could get this from Dell+Cruicial:
2.4 GHz P4
512 MB PC3200 DDR
30 GB HD
48x CDRW
Geforce4 MX440
Legal version of Microsoft Office
Legal version of Windows XP
17" CRT monitor
all the other stuff like keyboard, mouse, modem, floppy, etc.
All for $550 shipping included (see hot deals forum for this dead deal).

Sure there are differences, but subtract the monitor, downgrade to a slower 1600+ processor, and add in the other stuff (CDRW, DVD, and larger hard drive) and you end up with a brand new machine like yours running in the $450 range. There is no way a used one would be worth $500.

hehe anyways, depending on what kind of laptop you are planning to get, maybe can help pay for 1/4-1/3 of the price of it.

yea, i told him that....i have given him over countless hours of computer help/fixing anyway, he owes me like 1000$ in tech support charges anyway, so $400 isnt a total rip ;):p

My guess would be that you are hoping he won't take the same attitude about years of room, board, and putting up with a growing boy.

There are certain groups of people you don't take intentional advantage of.... irregardless of your selfish desires to get more stuff for yourself......

Family is one of those groups.

You should GIVE him that computer, thank him for helping you grow up and then ask if he would be able to help you buy a new computer.

I'm with Insidious on this. you should give him the comp as a present, not sell it for $$$.
A new desktop would be cheap enough if you buy the right items, and keeping your monitor will already save $100-200.
