How much is Enough?

How many fans are needed in a typical PC that won't be overclocked? I understand the PSU has one built into it, but are others required in the case? And when purchasing a case online, are these fans included?

Also, are there different types of fans (are certain sizes quieter or more effective)? And what exactly is AMD's Cool and Quiet technology--does it only affect the processor fan?

Lastly, any thoughts/comments on this case?

The 120mm fans will be the most quiet since they can push more air at a lower RPM. I would say at a minimum you would want two case fans, one intake in the front, and one exhaust in the rear.

it all depends on how much heat your equipment is generating too.

Are you just curious, or are you looking for a quite as possible PC.

On my old AMD 2000+XP i didnt have any case fans running. All that there was where the two fans from the PS.
O, and one more important detail.... i ran this PC without the use of the side panel.

As a general rule, if a case has properly sized air intake/exhaust path, one medium large fan in the back is enough.

Some cases come with fans and other don't. Again as a general rule, more rpm will result in more air flow but more noise.

Cool and Quiet only effects the processor - cpu slows down so conserve engery and reduce heat production when demand is low.

As far as the Rosewill case goes, the front air intake is restricted too much in my opinion. You'd be better off from a cooling standpoint with something with more area up front.

Good luck.

If you have a case like SuperLanboy which is pretty small, all you need is 1 rear 120mm and 1 psu with 120mm fan. As long as the front of the case has good dust filter and is decently open, this will be enough. Otherwise, a low volt 120mm in front will do fine for hdd cooling.

For a larger tower, spot cooling where needed is more of an issue. If I were to get a CM stacker, I would probably have the 120mm fan psu on bottom, 2x 7V panaflo 80mm on top, and 1x Yateloon D12SL in center back. Dust filter on the blow hole, dust filter throughout front, centralized 120mm front intake with harddrives.

How important is the powersupply? Are the cheap ones just noisier, or do they burn out a lot? If so, what are some reputable (and possibly budget) PSU companies?

Is it cheaper to buy a case with a PSU included, or better to buy them seperately? I don't need anything fancy, just something reliable and as cheap as possible.

The powersupply is VERY important not only for system stability but when a powersupply goes out it can take other parts with it (like motherboards, harddrives, etc)

What should I look for when shopping for one, and what is the cheapest I can get a quality one with at least 350wts for? Do any companies offer exceptional warranties?

If quiet is important to you, check out the recommended PSU list at Silent PC Review.

I'm using the PSU at the top of their list.
