so are you saying everyone else is working 10+ hour days m-f?
lol if i worked 10+ hour days m-f, there is no way in hell i would come in friday.
the problem with this forum is that people think they deserve a medal for working over 40 hours a week and think having 250+ hours of vacation is some kind of honorable thing, when in reality, you all are being suckers.
enjoy your time off, before you know it you will be too old to do anything you could have done in your younger years. stop saying "i dont have time for vacations blah blah blah" that is total bs.
but, at least you're getting paid for it. that's definitely more worth it than the guys working 50+ hours a week "bragging" about how they are company men, but are only getting paid for 40 hours.
I'd work 4 tens or elevens for a 3 day weekend every time. IF I had a FT equivalent 3x12 job that would be heaven.
In other words screw the OT, give me the day.
Each day I don't work costs me $2,000 in lost income, so that's what it's worth to me.
I'm confused, if the project needs overtime to meet a deadline, why is every changing their schedules? They're working the same amount of hours over fewer days. That doesn't sound like it benefits the project at all.
Since overtime is "approved" I'm assuming these people are hourly? So any comments about people working more than 40 hours for free have nothing to do with the topic.
This thread makes no sense.
Probably the project is going over the planned budget, or, they want to finish that project sooner so they will have more resources for the next project.
I was just complaining since I miss the old days when I would collect overtime prior to being OT exempt.
Except that based on the OP, neither of those things are happening. The same number of hours is being worked per week and will cost the same. Everyone is still just doing 40hrs/wk. The project schedule and budget sound unaffected, people are just getting three day weekends.
Whatever. /shrug
I love my current job because of the shift work. I choose to work mostly 12 hour shifts and get lot of days off. I still want to try 12 night shifts in a row one of these days, I'd still need to cover 16 hours after that so I'd just take two floaters which counts for that amount of time, and end up with 16 days off.
I think it would be long to work 12 in a row though, but nights do go fast. I did 8 in a row once. I was glad it was over, but at same time, I could have worked more if I had to. Nights don't burn me out like day shifts do, since with nights I don't have to get up early. Getting up early is what burns me out.
glad i don't work for a shitty company with poor management like the OP does.
To meet the deadline on a new project all overtime up to 55 hours has been pre-approved for 4 weeks but not required. With the extra time being required M-Th Friday was made optional. About half the dept decided to take Fridays off instead of working overtime, missing out on between $450-650 each week
Sounds like it's just for a month or so of extra hours. I'd probably work the OT. Unless i had specific plans for those weekends. To match the needs of the client we need people working 10 hour days M-Th. We have been given the option to work slightly longer on those days and\or come in on Friday for up to an additional 15 hours to work on other jobs\projects
