There's an ad in the local paper here where a guy is selling a used retail box Radeon 64MB DDR for $100 . . .

To me that seems way underpriced . . . should I jump on it? I've got a GeForce Classic right now.

It depends. Radeon 64mb VE's are worth about 70 and normal Radeon 64mb DDR's are about 150. This according to pricewatch.com. There is also a Radeon 64mb SDR but your listed one is ddr.

Also there are a lot of "Engineering Samples" around. Those are not clocked as high, and I don't believe they have a fan on them. Is it a VIVO?

Either way, you aren't going to get a better video card for $100.

Jump on it! Or else I'll track that ad down and get it myself! Hehe that's a nice price if it's in good condition and is a ViVo. If it's not a ViVo then I personally would not want it, but it's still a nice price.

jump on it!

you can't go wrong (unless you don't know what the card looks like), even if the guy is trying to sell you the wrong card.

The potential for problems is if it works at all, or if it's a special engineering sample (I've never encountered that b4 though) or something similar.

<< Agreed, sounds like a good deal as long as it's not a VE. >>

VE doesn't come in 64MB configurations.....

Stay away from VE unless you absolutely need a cheap dual monitor card. VE has only one texturing pipeline and has greatly reduced performance. The new Radeon 8500 will have dual monitors though and is probaly one the most powerful cards out there.

100$ is a very good deal for Radeon 64 DDR VIVO
