How much is a new Ford remote locking key fob?

Mine broke off the key ring. I know how to program one, but I don't know how much they cost or where to buy.'02 Focus, but it's my understanding that they've used this same part on every car that's had remote locking since they introduced it up to and including the GT.

50-ish, usually. YMMV at the local Ford parts counter.

And they might be the same on all of the Focus models, but certainly not the same for all Fords in general.

Keys for our old Expedition were $40 each. They weren't remote-lock controls, but they were chipped, as a security measure, to match up with the particular transmission in that particular vehicle.

He didn't ask about keys, he asked about a key FOB, which is the remote.

And anyway, your keys with chips, which are called PATS keys, have nothing to do with the transmission.

Don't buy it from the dealership, you're going to get reamed. When I got my driver's licence and wanted a key for my dad's Taurus, I bought an uncut key and unprogrammed remote from ebay, at a total cost of around 30 bucks. I simply had the key cut at the local locksmith, and then programmed everything myself. I'm sure Ford would have charged me like $100 for the same thing.

If you google ford key fob you can find a few places but the sites look skechy. Might just be better off going to the dealer rather than buying a knock-off that will break in a few months.

OUCH

I may have to learn how to unlock my door with a key.

Read my post above. The remotes are available on eBay right now for $15-20, I just checked.

$8 Ebay. Almost ALL fords recently (through 04 at least) use the same key fob. My 99 mustang currently uses one from a ford ranger

They're sinfully easy to program too.

I paid $100 for the key, got a fob/alarm thingy from a friend and programed it myself.

I drive a Passat.

I just *assumed* that's what they were for. Point being that a regular old key cut at the local hardware store or Walmart wouldn't work.
