How much ~ $$ in electricity would one 2.4ghz machine use in a month?

Assuming it had a 350W PS and was running the processor at 100% 24/7
 
Actually it depends on how much electricity is in your area😉 Really not much more than a 60w light bulb IIRC. Just make sure the monitor turns off after so long because monitors suck the most power.
 
I don't think it will consume 350W continuosly, so lets assume a continuos load of 250W.
250W x 4 hours = 1KW Hour
Right now in my neighborhood that's about 6 cents worth of electricity, YMMV.
24 hours in a day = 6KWH per day = 36 cents
30 days avg month = $10.80
Annual = $129.60

For me, x 4 computers = Annual est. cost of $518.40 (ouch)

You'll get a more precise reading if you use a Ampere meter (clamp on will do) and compute for wattage & cost. In Hawaii, there's a surcharge if you exceed a predetermined wattage consumption. I know I end up paying about $15/month per machine🙁

That's considering that if I didn't have the computers on 24/7, my electric bill is only about $90/month. With computers on 24/7, the bill is approx $200

Yeah... Power Sucks!!! Anyway to get a tax write off on computer equip and power?

Hmmm, maybe this should be a new thread? But now that I think about this... If we started a Non Profit organization we could all get a break for those spending more then 500 a year on power and equipment. And as most of us know that's not gonna be hard to do.

Computer don't use that much electricity it is the CRT monitors that do. If you have the power saving settings on for the monitor it significantly reduces the pwr consumption of the PC. If you have a LCD it is even less.

Also if you have one of those fire hot AMD processors and inadaquate cooling it can raise the temperature in the room and increase the AC cost witch is more costly than running the pc itself. On the other hand they can be cheap heaters during the winter months. When I was running AMD machines my computer room was always 10 degrees warmer than the rest of the house. With my Intel box's it's only 5 degrees.

It's unfair to single out AMD procs. Nowadays P4's produce just as much heat or more than an Athlon XP.

BTW, the cooling on your CPU won't matter for room temps. Any CPU gives out a certain amount of heat. That amount is constant, no matter what cooling method you use.
 
I 100% sure a normal home computer doesn use 250W. With many HDD, CDROMs & a powerful graphic card (ATI Radeon 9700). With only what computer really needs to run it would be something like 100W?
