Ati Radeon 9550 128mb AGP ---> Nvidia 6600 non GT 128mb AGP

My Rig:

Sempron 2600 Socket A
512mb DDR 400 x 2
Abit NF7-S2
120GB Seagate SATA w/8mb
Enlight 300w power supply

6600 is the best i can afford right now...the GT is way out of my budget :(
and most modern game sucks with that card...hope there's still enough juice on the 2600...so...how many % of improvement will i notice over the upgrade ? 15 % ? 20% ?

prob wont see anything, 6600 vanilla is an extremely weak card. I feel for you man, but instead save the money and upgrade(or even get a whole new rig) when it will actually make a difference.
You could keep your harddrive, case, and ram for your next computer too, so it will deal less damage to your pocket.

Let me know what you think

It will perform very similarly to an ATI 9700/9800 PRO. Considering the differance in performance between the 9500 and the 9700 a 6600 should be a nice impovement.

The vanilla 6800 non ultra non gt model sells for 150-180 and offers great performance.

If a 6600gt is way out of his budget, then a 6800nu would prob also be. The reason why the 6800nu offers great performance is because of its memory interface and that would be the best bang for buck, that or a 6800gs/x800gto2. But all that is out of his budget so..

Listen, you will most likely see no difference between a 6600 vanilla and what you have, seriously, its not worth the effort, money, etc because 6600 vanilla is ALOT worse then the 6600gt, so just because they kinda have the same name dont think they have similar performance.

i need the card badly...coz if i do upgrade to a new rig..its gonna take me prob awhile to save up the cash...so i'm planning to get a card that will last me til my next major upgrade...so i'm gonna see if the 6600 gives enough juice to last for another while

Then look at my Ebay link, for the same price as a 6600 you can have a faster 6800.

I stay outside of the US, so that Ebay option would be out for me...

so if the 6600 is not worth getting...i'm left with no choice but to stick with my current card ?
those frame rates...they look awful...even on a game like Empire at war... :(

I have a 9700 pro and the 6600 is an upgrade for me[/b]. Get it if you want it.

Maybe he should not upgrade if he considers $50 to be too much money to spend at this time. Perhaps spending that money in smarter ways would be the wiser choice? Buy a few shares of AMD and check back with us in 12 months when that stock is $60-80 per share.

the gpu is much more of a bottleneck, with games like fear as an exception where the cpu is also very important, but even with fear the gpu is much important then the cpu.
