How much $$ have YOU spent on hardware you don't REALLY need in the past year?

It just occured to me today that I have a terrible sickness. I'll call it "Hardwareupgradeidus." I have spent close to $5,000 on hardware this past year just so I can have the latest and greatest and I still see systems that make mine look obsolete. That $5,000 is on 2 systems so cut me a little slack please. However, I am just wondering if there are any others out there that suffer from the same sickness as me. How can I stop the madness? I want to blame someone....Lets see:

1. The vendors for continually making NEWER and BETTER stuff every other day.
2. The 3D Gaming makers for making games that need more POWER!!
3. My wife for not hiding my check book.
4. These forums where I see that others have better stuff than me..
5. The media for making such pretty pictures of all the neat stuff out there.
6. VIA, VIA, VIA....for the fact that they still havent got it right and have to make a new motherboard everytime they realize something wasnt right with the first one.
7. 3dfx for dumping me and others like me who invested in a V5 5500.
8. NVIDIA for making 34,987 differnt types of Geforce cards.
9. BILL GATES...Just because!
10. ME? Hell no, without me and others like me, there would be no "Hardwareupgradeidus" to find a cure for and many theropist would be out of work.

Who is to blame? What do you think? Is there a 12 step program for my condition? Will the madness ever stop? Maybe I should start a site like this one so I can get FREE hardware everytime is comes out and always have the best stuff. Naaa, I'm not that smart. Oh well, if you are feeling my pain..please leave comments.

I know what ya mean....I think the correct turm for your sickness is "Tim The Toolman Taylor Syndrome" it's really addictive and there's no none cure for it!!!

Just remember there's an Al inside of all of us too!!! Ya just gotta dig him out!!!

On to your question I've never really caught the syndrome myself....I usually just buy behind the curve and shop for the best deals.... Usually get rid of the stuff just before the value drops too much....So I'd say I bought about 2k's worth and maybe lost about 300 over the last year.

Well, I just bought my 3rd CUSL2, order my 512mb ram from crucial today @ 256/89.00, won my second Sun Ultra 80 dual 450 w/8mb cache off e8ay for 10,000 today, order my new Nissan Xterra, wife said no hummer, looking for a Dodge Viper, my porsche is now for sale, click the web link under... It really sucks. I just shelled out about $700 upgrading my two rigs. Dually P3 server and decided to drop the Duron and get a faster T-Bird for KT7-Raid.

It is sickening.

ALOT, It keeps me in permanent debt! I just picked up a Samsung SyncMaster 900IFT which was $730 canadian with tax, I got a CUSL2-C, and an additional stick of RAM last month. A Linksys cable router last month as well. I am thinking of getting a GeForce 2 PRO for my main rig and handing down my GTS to another computer I'm planning on building next month.

It's killing me but on the other hand it's keeping me alive. heheh

Right now my main thing is saving to pay off my soon to be 2001 Neon R/T

LOL - I think you knew the answer before you posted the thread! I have been really bad about upgrading, but then I got into SETI and RC5. Check my sig to see how bad it has gotten! I use lunch money to buy the stuff (per diem). So, at least, I am not in debt due to this sickness.
