So whats the going rate for a HT setup?

This can include as little as the 19"CRT TV you have in your den to the 1080p/i/jdhfasoa 500' Projector and screen you have in your back yard.

I am guessing the sound systems are going to trump all in terms of price but we will see.

Also if you have a room you turned into a "theater" and you have a rough estimate of what that ran ya post it up. (try to include furnature and any type of hardware costs)

thanks to CraKaJaX for reminden me PICS!!!

EDIT: UPDATE!!!

dont normaly update threads like these but I just asked my SO something. Heres the convo:

me: Can I spend $700 on a speaker for our home theater? ........and have 7.1 surround sound (7.1 means 7 speakers and 1 sub)

her: 7.1 means 7 carots one diamond ;-) and we are even.

me: hahahahahaha

her: :-D ummm im not kidding

🙁 uh oh.... calculator time

EDIT: ~$6700 on the stuff I am currently using

EDIT2: oh, do you want a components list?

Boston Acoustics AVP-7 $750
Boston Acoustics A7200 $750
Panasonic S77 $180
Sony VCR + antenna 😛 $100
Component stand $35
Onix Rockets 4xRS550MKII 1xRSC200 $1920
SVS 20-39 PC+ $650
Onkyo 602 for bass shakers ~$200
Other bass shaker equipment ~$200
Panasonic AE900U $1499
DIY screen $50 (+$50 to finish)
Logitech 880 $180
Misc. Cables ~$150?

EDIT3: we're doing pics now, eh? 😛
The Stand
The speakers
The sub
Crappy pics of what the projector can do (from the summer before move-in)

About $300...I already had a DVD player, I got a Pioneer reciever off of eBay (great deal), KLH 5.1 speakers (with subwoofer) from WorstBuy for around $200, and a 20" flat screen that's fairly good from Target for $88...Not too fancy, but it sounds good...

Onkyo 7.1 - $250
HK AVR 240 - $280
Speaker wire, etc - $70
40" Viewsonic - $900
TV Wallmount - $50

$1550 there.

27" Samsung CRT tv (not flat) $?
Altec Lansing ADA885 2.1/4.1 120W PC speakers $62
Norcent dp220 divx dvd player $40

Definately cheap, but it works great for me. The couch is situated about 6' away from the tv, and the room is small so the sound from the speakers is great.

$6550

Rogo

Infocus X1 Projector + 100" screen = $750
Onkyo 6.1 HTIB - $400

Probably another $200 for misc cables

Mine is still in the works but thus far...

42" Westinghouse LCD LVM-42W2, 1080p: FREE (is replacing my discontinued 37" under Best Buy's PSP)

Receiver:
Pioneer Elite VSX-81 ($624)

Speakers:
B&W 603's ($1000/pair)
B&W 600's ($350/pair)
B&W 600-series center (D60?) ($350)
B&W 8" sub ($380)

DVD Player:
Undecided between HD-DVD or regular DVD at this point. Estimate $150-$500.

So, considering oringally I was going to get a $300 HTIB setup, this will do quite nice I think, for less than $3K.

$229 on a Sharp 27" SDTV at Costco
$250 on a crappy Sony receiver while in college
$60 Panasonic 5 disc DVD player
$50 on a pair of bookshelf speakers
~$500 on a HTPC + beaucoup disk space

$375 - 27" HDTV (Marked down from $550)
$11 - Memorex Progressive Scan DVD player (Hot Deal from Sears)
$50 - Samsung OTA HD Receiver (Craigslist FTW)
$100 - Logitech 5300s

~$536 😉

19" Magnavox - Gift from parent 10+ years ago
VCR - won it in a raffle
DVD player - $75 from Circuit City

So, I've spend $75. In the next year or two, I'll probably get a new TV.

Just slightly north of $10K, but I'm hopefully going to sell it all next year, travel/work for the majority of the year and come home and upgrade.

At which point, I'll ask ATOT if they prefer JMLab-Focal Utopia Be Micros, Dynaudio C1's or something along those lines.
