by not having it for 25 years. - about 500.00 for bogus doctor visits that i knew i should have stayed home from.

I would not recommend that ANYONE forgo health insurance. At least have some kind of high deductible plan.

insurance plan costs either $0.00 for basic a month or $30 a month for premium for me at work, so if I had not had it for 25 years about $9000. I had a colonoscopy once and that was in the thousands and i only had to pay a few hundred or something , can't remember.

I'm probably ahead, and I rarely go to the doctor

Not sure, my employer provides me with insurance. Were you self-employed or did your employer not even offer it for a small amount?

I would at least have something for major disasters like a heart-lung transplant or something.

I can understand paying out of pocket for doctors visits but not having anything for expensive emergencies isn't something to brag about.

Dunno I live in Canada, but seeing as over 30 % of my salary goes into taxes, who knows.

So what happens if someone shoots you and you end up in the ER? You'd be paying for something like that the rest of your life. Or just file bankruptcy and screw your credit report.

Health insurance runs me ~$900/yr. Having my tonsils removed just cost me a little over $8k. Damn glad I had insurance.

When I had insurance it was about $400/mo for crappy coverage...so that's roughly $5000/yr. If I had gone without it for the 3-5 years I had it...a pretty significant amount. Which is one more reason I'll never have any form of insurance ever again.

How much would your paycheck have gone up if you waived health insurance altogether? That's the cost to you.

EDIT: Granted, you're never going to get the full amount that its "costing" your company to cover you.

Oh man, you shouldn't have talked about it. It's like "Larry Bird has made 271 consecutive free thro . . . D'OH!" 😛
