How much hard drive space is enough?

How much hard drive space is enough? I have been fine on a 30gig hd for the last 4 years even with a broadband connection, now i am building a new computer and need advice on how much hd space is enough...120, 160, or 200gb...i dont usualy download that much stuff, it just accumulates...what do you think? I dont have a collection of movies, just a few around usualy, and i have about 10 gigs of music...other then that i duno what fills it up lol....

I just bought a new 120 gb, which brings my total up to 400 GB. I'm sure ill need to get another one in a couple of months. The only reason I need so much space is I hate using CDs. I have an extensive divx collection on my comp as well as backed up games and apps.

20 gig on this computer, 10 on my laptop, and 40 on my other computer... none of them are near filled up. for me at least, anything over 80 would be crazy overkill

Hmmm....well back when I bought my 486 50mhz the salesman talked me out of buying a 40mb hard drive because he was certain 20mb was plenty and teh 40 was about 3x as espensive.

These days....I have a 120GB and a 80GB drive. Seems to be about right....

Depends on what your need for storage space. I've got a 40GB hard drive and only used maybe half of it so far. The bulk of the space usage is MP3s as far as I know.

I think it just depends on how much space you have. I used 40GB for about 5 years, and when I bought my first 120GB drive, I bought an 80GB two months after. I'm tempted to buy another one now.

I'd suggest getting at least a 100GB drive though, you'll notice how much more freedom you get 🙂

You're getting by on 30 just fine... what makes you think you're gonna need more just because you're building a new computer? Only you can answer this question. I have an 80 GB drive that's more than enough for me... others here have 400 GB between all their drives and it's not enough.

I've got about 690GB of HD space on my box, and while it's enough for now, I'll need more when I get another DSL line...

Only get as much space as you expect to need in the next year or two. As hard drive prices keep dropping you'll be able to add more later cheaper than it would be to get more space now. Just factor in speed as you're making your decision. Larger drives often have greater data density and larger caches than smaller ones, so they can perform better. If you've been living on 30GB for a while now, you're obviously not a huge downloader, so don't overbuy. Try to find a good deal on a fast drive in the 40-80GB range, they should be dirt cheap and that size should hold you for quite a while.

i prefer small hard drives, and using CD-R's for archiving. i have a couple of 40GB and 1 20GB atm. i tend to focus on speed, and quietness when i buy drives, and spend the remaining on a good burner 😀
