How much FSB can the average S754 board handle?

I was thinking of getting an A64 2800+... The only thing I'd like to get out of it is get it from 1.8 to 2.0 ghz so that it would be on par with an A64 3000+. This leads to the question since I can get ram that can handle it but how much with the average 754 motherboard get when it comes to FSB ? or would the mother board's capablilities be irrelivant due to onboard memory controller?

The max HTT seems to vary greatly from board to board and cpu to cpu. It takes a little work to find the limits because of some additional settings, but it will be worth it. Both my Shuttle AN50R and Chaintech VNF3-250 top out at around 270-275 with my 3000+, so it may be cpu limited in my case. I have seen some people with 350+. Either way, you should be able to at least reach 2-2.2ghz easy with a 2800+ I'd imagine. Even if your ram is not up to it, you can run the memory divider as the performance hit is not as big as you'd think.
