I was told I probably would need a new automatic transmission for my 7 year old Ford Explorer.
Anyone know a ballpark figure for what that will cost including parts and labor?

At first I thought you were talking about a transexual, but now I'm thinking around 2-3k?

You could spent 2-3k on a transexual if you wanted.

No idea for an Explorer -- though my uncle just paid $1800 to get a transmission installed in his '99 Ford minivan.

I paid 150 bucks for my MR2's transmission..that won't really help you any, though. :p

I had my '96 Explorer's tranny rebuilt by the stealership. It was just shy of $2000.

Usually new trannys don't tend to clients til the scars are healed. Other than that, it'll cost you 20-30% more than compared to the old trannys since its like paying for an updated model.

Are you looking for a preop or postop?

I'm not tranny expert, but I would guess that a preop would be cheaper, but could be confused with a stickshift...

it cost my bro about $1200-ish for a tranny for his 13 year old ford, so I'd guess a little bit more than that, like $2000 maybe?
