We're being quoted about $21 / sq. yd. which includes 8lbs padding, furniture moving, disposal, and installation. The carpet is a mohawk brand that is supposedly in the upper-mid grade.

They're also wanting $6 / sq. ft. for laminate including the above.

$6 /sq. ft for what? Also, do you have the name of the mohawk carpet?

Aaah...$6 a foot for laminate if we do that downstairs...sorry for the oversight. And no, I don't have the namebrand of the mohawk. He showed 3 kinds though, shag, textured, and plush. Said they had 10 year warranties

Mohawk is the brand. We just had some mohawk carpet installed although ours was a bit more per sq yard ($34).

When I bought my current house 20+ years ago I paid $50/sq. yd. for the carpeting and 150 oz. padding. The carpet is still like new, even on the stairs, even after raising kids. It just needs to be cleaned once in awhile. $21/sq. yd. sounds very inexpensive, especially nowdays.

Sounds about right, although you should probably shop around more...

I figure $15/yd^2 for the carpet, $3/yd^2 for the pad, and $2/yd^2 for installation.

Just remember to match the carpet with the drapes.

Shop around more and use this quote to drive a better deal.

Check out iFloor.com. They have a pretty decent selection of laminates. What type of laminate was that quoted price for. You can also check for carpet prices but I don't believe they carry any mohawk sub-brands of carpet though.
