How much faster is a 200 fsb Tbird over a Morgan Duron?

I'm looking at a 900 mhz Tbird or getting a 1.1/1.2 ghz Duron and would like to know which one would be faster

I know the TBird kills the Duron with its level 2 cache, but I wonder at what speed would the mhz of the duron balance it out..

Also would it be possible to adjust the fsb without unlocking the chip..either through the bios or through a software solution like cpucool

I'm on an ecs k7s5a so the only overclock I can do is fsb

Since the Morgan core features enhancements like SSE, hardware data prefetch, and improved power/heat features it actually outperforms that 900athlon in some areas of performance. I have a 1ghzDuron(no mods) in my K7S5A running@1.1ghz(110x10, mem@146.6) using CPUcool@ default voltage and it's on 24/7 as a ECCp box and it's very solid. I think it's a good value paired with the K7S5A since overclocking is limited.

That's a similar setup to what I have

a k7s5a board, cpucool and was planning on getting the 1 ghz duron and overclocking it as well. Have you tried going past 1.1 and what is ECCp?

Was planning on getting one for my k7s5a board w/ crucial cas2 pc2100 and it will be on a 400 watt power supply, no pci cards, and a geforce mx..

will also have a vantec hsf with a 38 cfm delta fan cooling..case will have a fan sucking out directly over the hsf as well

I replaced a t-bird 800@900 with a morgan duron 1ghz@ 1.2. It destroys the t-bird in every test I threw at it....sandra, 3dmark (my radeon DDR scales very nicely with the duron). There are plenty of reviews out there that compare morgan vs t-bird vs spitfire vs celeron.

I used the results of those reviews to purchase the Duron...and my itch to hit 1ghz.

I have not regretted it.

I have tried going to 112mhz FSB but it locks@default voltage and 20mhz isn't worth doing a voltage mod in order to try to achieve it, IMO. Unfortunately CPUcool goes straight to 124mhz FSB which I don't think the CPU can handle because I've read numerous post that 1.2ghz like gotey is running seems to be about the limit of the 1ghzDuron even on a good overclocking board. I'm glad you asked about ECCp because we could sure use you on Team Anandtech's ECCP team! First, read the
ECCp FAQs then if there's anything else you want to know just go to the ECCp daily stats link in the distributed computing forum and ask away :) We're trying to get new members to help us take back our 2nd place spot on the project and you could win 1000$ to boot! I hope you decide to join as we need the re-enforcemeents and you'd be giving something back to Anandtech for providing us with these forums :D
