The pro is quite faster than the non-pro if you're going to play at higher resolutions and it also has 4 more pixel pipelines enabled...

Yea the Pro is much much much better in my opinion and it is a close price range. And it will have much more longevity than the non pro. The 9500 pro is still owning up all all Nvdia card cept for fx 5800. Did I mention I'm a nvidia fan? ;)... Go w/ the pro bro.

damn.. first of all.. how the hell can u biosflash your nonpro to a pro if a pro has 4 more pixel pipelines than the nonpro (very important issue..!!) 2nd of all u can buy a 9500 pro at 190.00 bucks, i know its 30 bucks more than you're willing to spend but these 30 bucks will keep your card going a year more than it would with a nonpro 9500.. so for the sake of value, buy a 9500 pro

thats only for a certain type of non-pros. and those are hard to find
That is actaully very wrong you can softmod ANY non pro to a PRO. The ones that are hard to find is the non pros with a L shapped memory which you would be turning into a 9700 instead of a 9500 Pro. Either way go with a pro I bought my OEM 9500 Pro for $178 plus free ground shipping not a bad deal, at AllStarShop.com I think the extra 18 bucks is easily worth it. But you can buy a retail which comes with a $20 box too if you like.

From what I understand, it's the memory size that matters, not the card layout (though the layout may be related the the memory size).

The 64MB cards only have a half-bandwidth memory bus, same as the Radeon 9500 Pro, so that's what it mods into. But the 128MB cards have the full bus so can be modded into a 9700.
