How much faster is 1.33 Athlon vs Athlon 800?

I do video editing for a living and mainly use Boris FX/ Boris Red which rendering times heavily depend on FPU performance.

Currently Im using an classic Athlon 800 with pc100 memory.

Would I see a huge benefit by going to the Athlon 1.33 with the faster 266 memory?

The reason I ask is, for example a 1 gigahertz chip is not exactly twice as fast as a 500mhz chip... memory, mb chipset. etc... also affect performance.

Thanks!

You should see a big improvement... With large video transfers to/from RAM.... the PC266 RAM and the T-bird would speed you up.

Theoretically, the processor would give you 1.33G/800Mh = 66% speed increase... and memory bandwidth going from true PC100 (100MHz) to PC-133 at 2 accesses per clock for 266MHz effectively (or PC266 ram...) = 266/100 = 266% increase in bandwidth.

Will you see this great of an increase... probably not, but I bet you'll see a speed up of about 25-50%. A fast hard drive would help to... for doing video. Not to mention... if you get a 1.33 processor, you're likely to be able to squeeze at least 1.4G or more out of it.

Hope this helps somewhat.

Yep, for most apps the increase would not be huge (though it would be noticable), but for video editing, I'd jump all over that upgrade.

it probably won't be as big as most of these people think...

depends what u're doing fo course...video editing - hmmm...what software are u using? - the standar adobe suite?
u won't notice anything jaw braeking...or breath taking...

personally, i'd hold out slihtly longer till the palamino comes out - and see how it makes use of DDR as well..u might as well get something with a significant performance increase if u want to upgrade at all..

I'd have to take a guess on this one..

but I'd say about 533MHz faster. ;)

If you've got cash to burn - go ferit..

You'd see a big improvement. Not only would it be 533.33333333 MHz faster (just for you MrHelpful ;) ) but the L2 cache is integrated on the processor die so it's going a lot faster as well. DDR memory would come in handy as well as bandwidth plays a big role in video editing. If you can afford it I'd also recommend going with a RAID 0 setup for faster disk performance (if you don't already have it).
