How much faster 'could' Dual 480's be vs 1 295?

Well its already twice as fast then a 295. Example where you would get 40fps in a game now youll get 80fps.

Now your saying do SLI with them. That would make it 2.5 x faster,,,,,,, so that 80fps would be 100fps.... etc... thx

A 5870 is just as fast in many games and slightly faster in some as well. The 470 should be just as fast as the 295 if what they say is true.

I thought the GTX295 was faster than a 5870 in most cases. Hey!! I have both of those cards here, I don't have to ask anyone but my good 'ol self! LOL

FarCry2: 5870 first, GTX 295 second.

Battleforge: comfortable victory to GTX 295

48.5 vs 39 and 68.5 vs 54.7 for 2560 and 1920 respectively.

HAWX: again GTX 295 quite comfortably:

79 vs 68 and 111 vs 86 for 2560 and 1920 respectively.

Dawn of War II comfortable victory for 5870:

55.6 vs 49.2 and 67.5 vs 61.4 for 2560 and 1920 respectively.

No that will be 5970 & 5870 or 5970 & 5970 crossfire
 
good rule of thumb is 2 of last gens are still faster or as fast than the new gen flagship.
ex.

5870 vs 295
7950x2 vs gtx280
 
I think we need actual benchmarks before we can even speculate about how well the new cards scale. Honestly I'm not expecting scaling would be very good at launch since even AMD's cards are still improving in crossfire with driver updates. Also in general I've seen ATI cards scale better than similar NV cards, but who really knows with the new architecture.
 
As you can see I still think about 2 GTX 480's vs 1 5970, but my main concern is how much faster could 2 480's be over 1 GTX 295. Thanks!

Of course this is all speculative based on what information we have available to us...

Based on the rough estimates for run of the mill performance it is likely that 480s in SLI will offer ~10-15% ish better performance then the 295 for run of the mill type benches- ie Crysis 19x12 VH, 4x/16x. If the current information from nVidia is to be believed, it seems reasonable that it could be in the 100%-200% faster in certain situations which I would honestly think are reasonable given the target of this card- 25x16 8x/16x in particular should be an area where the 480 should show significant improvement over the 295 if all the information we have available is accurate. Another area where the 480 should offer significant performance gains is in PhysX performance. I wouldn't be shocked to see the Batman AA numbers with heavy PhysX scenes jump sharply running on 480s in SLI versus a 295. The larger performance gains in certain situations I see as a possibility mainly due to A- nVidia addressing the steep performance drop they suffered when moving to 8x in comparison to the competition and B- significant improvements in overall CUDA performance should directly benefit PhysX performance. I don't think either of these are a major stretch as it has been fairly clear those two elements were major considerations in the design of Fermi.

Of course, all of this is based on what we have heard. I wouldn't bet $10 of Key's money that it will be accurate, but if you want speculation based on the rumors we have heard, there it is 😉

This is highly doubtful.

If nVidia wants to sell ANY 480s at all, they will have to price it much lower than the 5970. If they dont they are idiots. You dont get to be the largest GFX producer in the world by being idiots.

If the GTX 470 truly is = 5870 as rumor has it, then the price will more than likely be the same or slightly higher. So anywhere from ~350-450 depending on if AMD drops prices in response. My guess is then about ~100 or 150 more for the 480 in relation from the 470. I do not think it will break $600 at all with the 5970 already out.

(Sorry if I sound like an ass im not trying to)
 
I hope the 480 can at least match the 295 in all games.

If this is the case i will gladly dump this stuttering POS.
