How much extra value would you give for a new frame?

He has an '03 Tacoma (V6 4x4 x-cab TRD, all options except limited package) - KBB 'excellent' book is about 12k. 100k-ish miles. It's getting a new frame & all other associated stuff..suspension, brakes, etc from Toyota. I have an '05 Tundra with ~44k (v8 access cab 4x4, towing package, cold weather package, etc) which books about 17k in 'good' condition.

He may test drive mine tonight & talk to his wife about it...he doesn't want a loan, though, and I'm obviously not going to trade straight-up (I owe $9k still).

Sooo.., I really want another Tacoma, and I don't mind paying a little extra for one with a new frame, but I don't want to lose out badly either. Any input would be great!

I wouldn't want any truck from a company if it needs a whole new frame and suspension after only 6 years and 100K miles.

Insufficient corrosion prevention stuff will do it, living where I do. I loved my old Tacoma - it was a great truck..I replaced the leaf springs after over 170k miles and the frame rotted out just before 200k. Body and engine were fine.

Toyota bought back 95-00 Tacomas due to frame rot issues - for 01-04, they're replacing the frame. When they replace the frame, they also replace the stuff attached to it. If it was a Texas truck, it would be fine. 😉

New components don't add any value, they just don't discount the truck any more over the normal kbb values. I'd be alarmed that the frame had to be chagned, and very worried that the truck was not 'right'. Basically major work like that to me is equivalent to buying a wrecked car.

Slightly under the regular used value. It's not worth more because it's getting a new frame. Not at all.

Think of it this way OP. You're currently driving a truck thats worth more that doesn't have a frame issue. And you're wanting to buy an older truck that DID have a frame issue, because its getting a new revised frame. But you already have the revised frame. Unless you've wrecked yours the frames should be in almost identical condition. Except for surface rust the frames don't really give out and certainly not this quickly.

In other words, stick with what you got, unless you're trying to give a present to your friend.

I want a Tacoma - I have a Tundra.

I guess I will wait 'till I move out west...can get a rust-free original-framed truck out there.
