hi does anyone know how much engine oil I should put into my 2000 Passat GLS (4 cyl.)? I thought it was 4 quarts but every time I have oil change at dealer they bill me for 5 quarts.

The capacity of the motor may be 4 quarts, but you usually add another quart to fill the filter. Your manual should give the proper amount to put in when you change it.

I'm positive my manual doesn't indicate exact amount I should put in but I'll double check just to be sure.
I've called VW coporate office and was told to ask my local dealer but that's the last resort for the situation here...

Wait I'm confused.....what exactly are you asking then? Are you asking us how many quarts of oil you should purchase? If you think it's 4 then you buy 5 - you always have at least an extra handy. The dealership probably puts in 4 and a 1/4 or 1/2 and charges you for 5

The engine oil capacity for the 1.8T engine is 4.35L or 4.6 quarts with a filter change.

(straight from my Bentley manual.)
