How much does sound add on slow down the system?

My ac'97 built into my k8t800 pro is nice sounding, but I think audiologyu would sound hella better. but... how much will it slow down the system?
 
could you please specify what sound card you are plaaning to get. Usually an addon sound card frees up the CPU cycles required to process sound.
