How much does shared video affect CPU performance?

Ok, looking at some laptops, there's a pretty good deal, except it has ATI 9000 IGP (I think that's what it is) shared video. Now, back in the day I would have stayed away from that, but I'm not a gamer anymore. I'm going to be using the system for live music sequencing, a process that's CPU intensive but not at all graphics intensive. With a gig of ram is this going to make a dent on the performance? Is this only a concern for people that want fancy 3D graphics? Thanks.

The laptop I have now has a 32MB card and has the exact same WUXGA 1920x1200 display... so it would only be 32MB of a gig... wouldn't be that much of a waste. BTW, it's a 3.06GHz P4 w/ HT. So that might help out too...

The bandwidth consumed by shared-RAM graphics does matter a bit - not so much if the VGA unit is just producing a 2D image, much worse so during realtime 3D work.

integrated should be just fine for what you're doing, especially with a gig of ram. i can play NFS underground on a 256mb shared graphics laptop, to give you an idea.
