How much does memory generally overclock?

I've got some DDR2-1066 and I wanted to try pushing it and wasn't sure what I could usually expect.

Obviously nothing is guaranteed, but am I looking at being able to push it just a few MHz or is it usually more like 100MHz or more?

what kind of processor are you running that you need more than a 533mhz bus? that should be about the fastest ddr2 you'd ever need outside of a serious c2q overclock.

some memory has trouble even running at rated speed. i would say a 100mhz overclock would be pretty lucky in many cases.

I've got a e5200 running at 3325 (12.5x266). I just figured I'd see how far I could push the system.

I can get into windows and start running prime 95 at 278, but it doesn't last long.

I don't know if it's my memory or the cpu at that speed though.

at the stock speed your memory is underclocked by half. you can pump that bus up as high as it'll go as long as the memory is running at 1:1. heck, you could run 2:3 up to 355mhz, but the performance increase would be negligible if not nonexistent.

theres no generalizing possible for such things. its different grades of ram from different companies etc.

My first A-Data 800 Mhz CL4 kit went to around 928 or something like that until it went unstable. Haven't tested the second 2x1GB kit, I just threw it in there and it was stable so I was happy.

I would be very surprised if you couldn't push your e5200 further with higher voltage and a good cooler, but 3.3GHz is decent. You will see absolutely no discernible benefit from overclocking your memory.
