How Much Does Lasik Cost?

I have VSP, but I don't think they cover that.

Any idea on costs from those of you that have done it?

I read the average was $1500, but just want to test that theory.

I was under the impression it was 4 to 5 grand.

I wouldn't be trying to find the lowest bidder with this type of operation.

So "Larry's Bait Shop and LASIK House" probably isn't a good choice right?

That depends... do you get discount nightcrawlers with botched operation?

The place I went to (and will probably do) breaksdown like:

VisX laser (oldest technology)
$800 per eye
$1100 per eye with lifetime touchup

Flying Spot (recommended)
$1300 per eye
$1500 per eye with lifetime touchup

Custome Wave Front (newest and customized to your eye)
$1800 per eye
$2000 per eye with lifetime touchup

This is a reputable place that comes recommended. So for 4 grand I can basically get the newest technology with free lifetime touchup. Then, if my vision ever gets worse they'll redo it for free.

Many places advertise deals like "$495 per eye" and such, but after you get in and talk to them about the different technology and how it affects success rate, comfort, healing time, etc, you'll be up to $3-4k, on average.

I think VSP will let you get a percentage discount, like 10% or so, but I'm not positive.

Depends on what type/ho wmany eyes

usually ppl have 2 eyes on earth -_-;

However one eye might be nearsighted and the other eye be fine.

Also I know people who have had lasik done for under 1500 for both eyes.

I paide 1800$ Canadian total for both eyes. 20/15 vision in both eyes now, so don't buy into the more $ is better, as the extra cost is usually due to royalties paid for laser technology and such, which doesn't exist in Canada.

Does that mean I can do one at a time and wear a monacle in the mean time?

That might be worth it.....

Heh heh... monocle. that word makes me laugh. But not OL.

Watch out for Dr. Nick Riviera, too. He just flashed me with a pen laser.

I would be afraid that I would have to start wearing reading glasses, since I now take my glasses off to read or see up close. I need glasses for computer work.

Just get the cheapest one. Like $500 per eye or something like that.

My friend got one of those. They tried to sell him the $1000 and $2000 upgrades and told him the $500 was old tech and risky. He went with $500 and it's been I think over 2 years and he's fine.
