How much does it cost to ship a bike?

Has anyone shipped a bicycle before? About how much does it cost ? (for a full sized road bike that is very light) Are you supposed to put it in some kind of big box, or do you not need to. USPS or UPS better?

LBS's usually charge around $30-40 to have it disassembled and packed properly. Unless you want to do it yourself, then you'll probably have to go ask them if you can have the boxes laying around.

Shipping usually runs from $30 and on.

I prefer FedEx. But would pick UPS over USPS when it comes to big packages like this.

I stole a few bikes last week, and I was wondering about this as well. I had my eye on this set of Snap-On tools but I couldn't hold all of the stuff so I left it.
