the other day i parked my car between suvs. as there was a drive way next to both suvs, i figured i was safe even though it was a tight fit, as the front SUV could just go straight, and the back on could just back up.

however i come to my car today, and noticed that the retard in the rear suv, didnt bother backing out, and ripped half the paint off the corner of my car. Does anyone know how much this will cost to fix? i mean my friend had this happen and he said it was lik e$200, but i can get my whole car repainted for like $800 so i figure, thats a little steep? i'm sure this has happened to other people, also anyone know how long it takes to fix?

Your friend is pretty close to right. I operate a body shop myself and plastic or rubber bumpers figue 2.5-3 hrs. according to the vehicle model. Then you add the price of paint and materials. So that's gonna be $150-200.

$200 sounds reasonable. $800 for a whole car sounds like they aren't doing much prep work.

Blah $800.00 for a whole car = piece of sh*t job. The $200.00 sounds about right though...

If you know how to do it yourself or have a friend that does this sort of thing go for it. I'd do it myself, cus it would only cost me the price of paint. Time is nothing. :)

i wish i could do it myself. i know i'd have to sand it down, and color match the paint, but how would you apply the paint and like do you need special dryers or anything? for $150 i might actually do it since i'm gonna be running into some money soon, the place my friend went to charged like $250 but they did his whole bumper since i guess there was other stuff on it. ack, i hate SUVs.

i really wish i could just get an "I HATE SUVS" bumpers sticker with an arrow pointing to the damage. I mean i was driving today, and there are so many cellphone using SUV driving retards out there, its just amazing. And those things are so big, not to mention have a lot of torque and put dents in my bumper. Bastards. I will never buy an SUV ever!!!

Actually, $200 sounds like a very good deal depending upon the amount of damage. To get a really good paint job done on the whole car can be $4,000 (yes, four thousand). An $800 paint job will more than likely have no prep work at all, involve very few coats of paint, and not paint the engine compartment, the door jams, or the trunk interior, there will also almost certainly be overspray in a few areas onto trim pieces. Painting bumpers is harder than usual as well, since the paint must be specially treated in order to make it flexible. Normal automotive paint that works fine on steel will start flake off a rubber bumper in a week or two (experience talking).

I was rear ended a few weeks ago. To replace and repare the bumper and exhaust tips, was $900. $200 for painting the bumper doesn't sound too bad to me.

Also, they can't jsut paint half the bumper, they will paint the whole thing.
