How much does it cost to install a washer/dryer

I just signed the lease on the place I am living in for my senior year of college. Awesome location, big rooms, reasonable rent, utilities are paid...but there's one problem- there is no washer or dryer. Normally this would not be a issue as there is a laundromat on the same block, but that place appears to be closing now, and the next closest one is like six or seven blocks away. This could really suck.

Anyway, I am thinking of purchasing a washer and dryer for cheap off of craiglist, and telling my landlord that if she wants to install the appliances, she can keep them in the unit for future renters. How much would this cost? Is there a good chance she would do this, or would I have to sweeten the offer somehow?

Are there W/D connections already and just no machine - or no connections?

I didn't look, but I would assume no connections.

If there are W/D connections, I'd just have the delivery guys put them reasonably close to their final destiny, then hook them up myself. It's just a hot and cold water hose, a drain hose for the washer, a 220 or 240v plug in for the dryer, and a vent tube.
How hard could that be? ;)

Yes, especially since we all know that ATOTers have no problems hooking up, finding the right plug, and correctly inserting their hose.

If you have the right connections for a W/D its easy to do and usually won't cost much to have installed, but if you have no connections the cost could be pretty high. Need a certified electrician and a certified plumber, and neither works for cheap.

If you have the hook ups, and you buy it from and have it delivered from Home Depot/Lowes/Etc, they will do it free.

If you need the hook ups installed, that might cost about an hour of labor and parts...so maybe $75 to $150 (depending on how long it takes)?

Rather than offerring to let them buy them, offer to have them put in in lieu of one month's rent or some fairly decent deal to you AND them.

I mean, with a washer/dryer there, that's an extra easy selling point for them when you move out.

A washer/dryer would increase water usage and either gas or electricity, depending on the type of dryer. Someone's utility bills would increase.

Landlords sometime install pay-for-use washer/dryers.

why not get those small washers that you can roll around. It plugs into the kitchen faucet and regular outlet. that way even if and when you move you can take it with you. Text

I doubt they'll go for it unless they're desperately looking for renters.

I love having a washer/dryer in our rental.

Washer box, drain and dryer vent would need to be installed. It's not going to be a very easy or cheap thing to do.

Dude has been here 11 days and already he's ragging on us. Don't worry, you will be assimilated.
