I'm trying to decide if I should attempt to go it alone or hire an accountant. If anyone could give me a ballpark figure on what it would cost to hire an accountant to do my personal and business taxes (not any reseller stuff I take care of that) at the end of this year..

What he said.

Yeup my company charges that rate for an audit. Tax is like $150/hour for staff, $350-550 for managers.

Remember, it sounds expensive, but if you go to a real CPA they will give you all kinds of tax planning advice that could actually end up saving you money.

$350-500 is a bit conservative if it's your first time with that accountant. I'd probably say 600-800 for the first time.

Actually now I am thinking I should probably learn how to file them myself the first time.

I'll be happy to use an accountant when I know what he is doing but I don't want some guy fvcking with something that important and have no clue what he is doing.

I wish my high school friend who is studying to be an accountant would hurry up and graduate and become a legal accountant. Him I would trust.

I paid $75 flat rate for mine- but that wasw a one-man business with all receipts entered in Quickbooks already, he basically had to nod a few times and give advice.

are you kidding me? you pay 3-400 a year to have a legal cpa do your taxes. You're paying for his 4-5 years of school + studying for the cpa exam + audit experience etc etc etc.

You pay the CPA so he can save you more money on taxes than you can do by yourself.

Somebody that graduates with a degree in accounting =/= somebody that should do your taxes
