platinum runs about $900/ounce whereas gold is about $500. you may want to look at white gold. looks the exact same as platinum, just a little softer for the price of gold. pm me if you have more questions.

We just shopped for wedding rings. We had to go with white gold cause platinum was upwards of $1k right now (for a pair). Something to do with the war... so he said. Other jewelers were the same. Are you looking for guy or girl's ring and what size ?

The extra cost of platinum wasn't worthwhile for us right now... wedding was expensive enough.

The actual platinum must be less than $500 for the material in a ring.
So, how much does the custom work cost? another $500?

what size ? We wanted custom platinum and she was willing to give it to us for minimum $1300 for a size 6 (3mm) and size 8 (6mm) combined. In comparison, we ended up with white gold in those sizes for $540.

note - basic rings w/ no engraving are basically a commodity. Shop around by phone once you know your sizes because the range of prices is wide...

Forgot how much the platinum was in our rings but we decided to go with it since we plan on keeping them forever and hopefully pass them down to our kids or grandkids. Mine is really taking a beating and still looks great!

My GF and I are planning on getting married within the next year, and we've more or less decided to get our rings from this place. They've got titanium, tungsten, and some of them incorporate platinum/gold/silver.

we really wanted something that was just for us, hence the design fees and such. our rings only took about a month to get all done, maybe a little longer.

Any luck with them? I e-mailed them a question last week and haven't heard back, which makes me a little sketchy about doing business with them, but I love their claddagh design. It's uncommonly masculine.

My real jeweller warned me that Ti is very hard to resize, but I counter that with it being cheap, you can just get a new one if your weight changes THAT much.

That was my mother's other point...my father is on his 3rd wedding ring. The first was cut off when he broke his hand. The second flew off in the ocean. She warned me not to spend too much on my wedding ring - men are hard on them and there is a good chance that it will be lost or destroyed.

That said, I'm going to get a cheaper ring for me and a nicer one for the wife-to-be.

ooh :)

my fiancee and I went ring shopping in June...got a white gold ring, its really pretty (proposed in July, btw :)). she's not a big fan of the yellow gold. I'll probably end up getting a white gold ring, too. we haven't found one we really like yet tho. what are the advantages to platinum?

goto diamondtalk.com, a few designers hang out there. white gold don't look like platinum, plat has a dark luster that you can't get from white gold, not to mention it feels a lot heavier than gold.

Wife's platinum wedding rings cost $1100.

My silver band cost $99 (They way I treat rings, the cheaper the better).
